En memoria de una tremenda mujer, Norma Aceves que impulsó esta conmemoración y tanto nos dejó a quienes tuvimos el privilegio de gozar de su amistad.

Since I live in Guanajuato, I begin by citing that according to the National Survey of Demographic Dynamics, ENADID 2023, in this federal entity there is a population of 6.3 million people, 6.8% of whom are people with disabilities .

Of the total number of people with disabilities, 231,000 are women with disabilities . Today, September 12th, National Day of Women with Disabilities, is a date to commemorate and recognize their contribution to society. These women are girls, teenagers, elderly people, mothers, workers, educators, caregivers, teachers, social activists, and many more roles that contribute so much to society.

This is a day to remember the impact of the barriers women with disabilities face in choosing the path they want for their lives. These barriers disproportionately limit their access to the labor market, forcing them into informal and precarious employment, with the consequent impact on their right to social security and health services.

In Mexico, according to the 2020 Population Census, among people aged 30 to 59, 96 out of every 100 men without disabilities had economic participation , in contrast to only 49 out of every 100 women with disabilities .

According to data from the 2025 registry of the Pension for the Well-being of People with Permanent Disabilities program, in Mexico for every 100 men with disabilities only 79 women with disabilities are beneficiaries of the program, even though the number of women with disabilities is greater than that of men with disabilities.

...for every 100 men with disabilities, only 79 women with disabilities are beneficiaries...

Today and every day, it is time to recognize that we still have work to do to achieve a more just society that leaves no one behind, to ensure that all rights are for all people.
